Perino Elected First Woman On NSSA National Board
Mary Jo Perino, who has won back-to-back NSSA Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year Awards has been elected to the NSSA National Board, NSSA National President Ron Morris has announced. Perino is a Minnesota native, who graduated from the University of Missouri. After stints in Indiana and at CNN, Perino is back for her second tour of duty at WLEX-TV, the NBC affiliate in Lexington, KY.
Perino was elected by her peers as Kentucky Sportscaster of the Year in 2009 and 2010. She also served as a panelist at NSSA’s Women in Sports Media Issues Forum in Salisbury, NC last Saturday.
NSSA Executive Director said, “I am thrilled that Mary Jo has agreed to serve on our National Board. She is both personable and knowledgeable and it’s great that she can be a pioneer in our organization as the first female on the Board.”
Perino and her husband live in Lexington, with their son.
NSSA’s National Board serves an advisory role to the Foundation Board, which is NSSA’s operating arm.

Ky. is very proud to have such a great sports person-caster and fortunate to keep her. Keep up the great reporting.
I live in Lexington and Mary Jo Perino is one of the main reasons we watch Channel 18 Sports . I believe she is the BEST Sportscaster anywhere . Just love her and her interaction with everyone.
Mary Jo is the best. Being a Lexington native, KY, it is a joy to watch her on WLEX-TV (NBC affiliate). …plus and her new slimmed down look doesn’t hurt her delivery either. Good Job MJ all the way around.
