NSSA Alabama Sportswriter of Year Segrest Writes Novel

Not only is Doug Segrest of the Birmingham News a talented sportswriter, as evidenced by his election as 2011 NSSA Alabama Sportswriter of the Year, but he’s also a novelist.  His new book, A Storm Came Up, is set in 1963 east Alabama, amid the changing and at times, chaotic social and racial atmospheres.  To learn more about the book, go here.

About Dave Goren

Dave Goren serves as NSSA’s Executive Director – responsible for fund raising, marketing, membership and community involvement. Goren is a 24-year veteran of local television sports, with extensive experience in newspaper and radio sports as well. After his 20th and final year at WXII-TV in Winston-Salem, NC, Goren was voted NSSA’s 2008 North Carolina Sportscaster of the Year. In addition to his NSSA duties, he serves as sideline reporter for Wake Forest football on the Wake Forest IMG Sports Network. Goren is an 11-year veteran winger in the Piedmont Hockey Association and lives in Winston-Salem, NC with his wife Ada and sons AJ and Max.
