Costas, Elway to Present Albert, Reilly for Hall of Fame Induction
SALISBURY, NC – It will be a night filled with Hall of Famers, when the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association holds its 55th Annual Awards Banquet on Monday, June 9th, at Catawba College. NSSA Hall of Famer will present his longtime friend, Marv Albert, and Pro Football Hall of Famer John Elway will present his longtime friend, Rick Reilly, for induction into the NSSA Hall of Fame.
Costas was inducted in 2012. He replaced Albert as the voice of the NBA on NBC in 1997. Albert would return to that position in 2000. A 19-time NSSA New York Sportscaster of the Year, Albert was elected to the Hall of Fame by NSSA members during balloting in December of 2013. He just finished calling play-by-play for Turner Sports of the NCAA basketball tournament. He will continue as one of Turner’s lead NBA voices through the Western Conference finals.
Reilly, an 11-time NSSA National Sportswriter of the Year, was also elected to the NSSA Hall of Fame during December balloting. He recently announced that he will give up his column writing for ESPN.com, and focus solely on his ESPN television duties.
Elway just completed his third season as the Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Denver Broncos, the team he led to five Super Bowls and two World Championships during his 16 seasons as quarterback. Elway was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
The Hall of Fame inductions will be a part of the banquet that will also see NSSA honor National Sportscaster of the Year Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick (NHL on NBC) and National Sportswriter of the Year Peter King (Sports Illustrated, The MMQB), and 105 state sportscasters and sportswriter of the year from throughout the United States.
In addition, the Jim Nantz College Sportscaster of the Year Award will be presented, along with the Big House Gaines College Basketball Coach of the Year Awards.
