ACC’s Big Four Basketball Coaches Headline NSSA’s Honorary Board
(Salisbury, NC) December 1st -- More than
two dozen of the most well-known sports figures in the State of
North Carolina have agreed to serve on the first National
Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA) and Hall of
Fame's Honorary Board of Directors.
NCAA basketball champion coaches Mike Krzyzewski (Duke) and Roy
Williams (University of North Carolina) are joined by fellow 'Big
Four' coaches Dino Gaudio (Wake Forest) and Sidney Lowe (North
Carolina State) on the Board that will help NSSA market its name
throughout the country.
Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner
John Swofford has also joined the Board, along with head football
coaches Jim Grobe (Wake Forest) and Tom O'Brien (NC State) and
athletic directors Kevin White (Duke) Dick Baddour (UNC), Lee
Fowler (NC State) and Ron Wellman (Wake Forest).
Some of North Carolina's other major
colleges and universities are well-represented. Appalachian State's Charlie Cobb (athletic
director), Jerry Moore (head football coach) and Buzz Peterson
(head basketball coach) are joined by East Carolina's Terry Holland
(athletic director), Skip Holtz (head football coach) and Mack
McCarthy (head basketball coach), along with Charlotte's athletic
director Judy Rose.
North Carolina's pro sports are
represented by Carolina Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos, Jr. and
NASCAR team owner Richard Childress.
"We
are thrilled to have so many household sports name from our state
to represent NSSA as a sort of 'host committee,' said NSSA
Executive Director Dave Goren.
NSSA
is in its 51st year of honoring and preserving the
accomplishments and legacies of American sportscasters and
sportswriters. NSSA's more than 700
members elect a State Sportscaster and Sportswriter of the Year
from each state, a National Sportscaster and Sportswriter of the
Year and two Hall of Fame inductees.
Each spring, the winners and inductees are honored at the NSSA's
awards weekend in Salisbury. The next
awards weekend is scheduled for May 1-3, 2010.
