NSSA Awards Weekend Is Here!

SALISBURY, NC --  NSSA Headquarters is abuzz with preparations, getting ready for the 51st Annual Awards Weekend this Saturday through Monday (May 1-3).  Participants begin arriving Friday for the three-day weekend that honors sportscasters and sportswriters from all over the country.  Among those scheduled to appear this weekend:  Hall of Fame Sportswriter inductee Peter Gammons, National Sportscaster of the Year Jim Nantz, National Sportswriter of the Year Bob Ryan and golf legend Arnold Palmer.  Unfortunately, Hall of Fame Sportscaster inductee John Madden had a scheduling conflict and will not be joining us in Salisbury.  Those in attendance at Monday night's Awards Banquet will see a recorded Madden acceptance speech.

In addition to the Hall of Famers and National winners, 106 State Sportscasters and Sportswriters of the Year will be honored.

Joining the winners at Monday's night's banquet will be NSSA Honorary Board members H.A. 'Humpy' Wheeler (former President of Charlotte Motor Speedway), ACC Commissioner John Swofford, two-time Super Bowl champ Ed Bradley (Pittsburgh Steelers), Kannapolis Intimidators owner Brad Smith and NASCAR legend Ned Jarrett.

Monday's Awards Banquet will cap off a weekend that features a Welcome Dinner and VIP Panel Discussion on Saturday night, a brunch and seminar sponsored by the National Athletic Trainers' Association and a golf tournament featuring the winners, hosts and guests.
